Origin: Kent Nelson was an accomplished psychiatrist living his dream. Fate smiled greatly upon him in the form of an amazing career, a wonderful wife and daughter, and was well respected in his community. All of this turned downward for him when, soon after cheating on his wife, he was found out and the relationship ended. Nelson lost his daughter in the process and soon drifted into depression. He no longer cared for much of anything and it showed in his job, when patients would speak with him for guidance and he couldn’t be bothered to care. One of these patients was tormented by demons, and sometime after speaking with Nelson had a psychotic break, killing thirteen people in the process. Kent used his family gift to see this man’s thoughts but was appalled by what he saw, desperate to lock away and forget the experience.
The blame for those deaths fell upon Nelson, and he was sued by the victims’ families and the patient’s for negligence and malpractice, losing his home, his job, and his wealth in the process. To make matters worse, his wife’s divorce had finally gone through, and so he was left with nothing. Just trying to stay alive, Kent found himself rummaging through a dumpster, his bed for the night, for something to protect him from the storm brewing in the night sky. This was when he found the Helmet of Fate, and donned it just to try and cover his head. The helmet instantly imparted upon Kent visions of its recent past, from the falling of the previous Agent of Order, Hector Hall, all the way to that night in the dumpster.

Over time the helmet began teaching basic spells to Nelson, which he used for gambling fraud. During this time he meets a girl named Maddy, an owner of a Vegas occult shop, where he enters a deep mediation to explore all of the pains contained within his psyche. This is when he learns real magic, the physical kind, and employs it to fly in the real world upon waking from the vision. Not long after, however, Kent’s mental state takes another blow after forgetting not only the word to fly, but also his daughter’s own birthday.
In a near fatal drowning incident, Kent is saved by comic writer Inza Cramer, which begins a story of reincarnated lovers that is cut terribly short by a demonic entity by the name of Negal. After a long and arduous adventure to thwart that enemy, Kent finally realizes the powers of Order and, with Inza at his side and his negativity behind him, the newly incarnated Doctor Fate battles the forces of Chaos with the full might of Nabu the Wise.
