Origin: Once a prominent militaristic leader among the people of Krypton, Dru-Zod was tasked with apprehending one Jor-El by orders of the council for reason of spreading civil unrest in the form of apocalyptic theories. General Zod listened to Jor-El’s pleas and soon realized that the scientist was right: Krypton was doomed. Zod turned against the council and with his team and close friend Non, set out to warn the populace of Krypton of the impending doom. The council, turning its attention towards Zod, apprehended Non and lobotomized him, causing a deep set rage and quest for vengeance within the mighty general. Together with Non and Ursa, Dru-Zod attacked the council and managed to slay five of them before being stopped and subsequently labeled terrorists. The remainder of the council assigned Jor-El to decide the group’s punishment, who settled on exile as a lighter sentence than execution. Because Jor-El refused to help him, General Zod swore a vow of vengeance upon the house of El before being banished to the Phantom Zone.

Years passed and General Zod finally managed to escape from his prison with the use of his son, Lor-Zod, whom he had conceived with Ursa during their time in the Phantom Zone, and discovered that not only had Krypton been destroyed as predicted, but that the supposed last surviving Kryptonian was none other than the sole heir to the house of El, currently under the alias of Superman. After sending Kal-El to the Phantom Zone and enslaving Metropolis for a time, Dru-Zod was finally stopped once his son had managed to release Superman from the same prison he’d helped to free his father from. Superman made a temporary alliance with Lex Luthor and together they were able to overthrow Zod and his allies, sending them all back to the Phantom Zone. Little does anyone suspect that the General has found another method of escape, and is even now plotting his revenge against the Man of Steel.
